For over a decade, Mr. Kotab has specialized in preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a broad spectrum of technological areas, including: semiconductor fabrication and processing, data storage hardware, software, integrated circuits, computer hardware, wireless applications including RFID, chemical compounds, chemical processing, pharamceuticals, alternative energy (devices and fuels), mechanical devices, nanotechnology, reconfigurable logic devices and applications, and electro-mechanical technology. Mr. Kotab is currently devoting more and more of his time to biotechnology and biomedical sciences as well as alternative energy.

Besides preparing and prosecuting patent applications, Mr. Kotab has written dozens of validity opinions and freedom to operate opinions, has been instrumental in numerous infringement studies and licensing initiatives, and has found success in a pre-litigation diligence and litigation support capacity.

Mr. Kotab prides himself on going the extra mile for his clients, providing individualized service no matter what the needs of the client may be. As a case in point, Mr. Kotab recently spent one day a week on-site at The Clorox Company working directly with their in-house counsel and scientists.

Mr. Kotab also devotes much of his time to development of comprehensive, aggressive intellectual property portfolios for high technology companies with an eye on future value and potential licensing opportunities. In particular, he specializes in strategically positioning intellectual property assets to maximize value and place the company in a position for market leadership.

Mr. Kotab is a co-founder of Zilka-Kotab, PC. Mr. Kotab earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and a J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Kotab is a member of the State Bar of California; United States District Court, Northern District of California; United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and the State Bar of South Dakota. He is a member of the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (SVIPLA), American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), and is fluent in Spanish.
